Patterson Redevelopment
Manchester Cancer Research Centre

Location: Manchester
Status: In design
Area: 25,000 sqm

The Paterson Redevelopment Project will create one of the world’s top five cancer research centres for translational discovery. The development is led by The Christie on behalf of the Manchester Cancer Research Centre (MCRC) which is a partnership between University of Manchester, Cancer Research UK and the NHS Christie.

The £150m 10-storey project obtained planning permission in September 2019.

The project includes laboratory and research space, along with consultant workspace. There will also be a reception, cafe, facilities management, and publicly accessible exhibition space on the ground floor, along with new public realm fronting the building.

The existing building was ravaged by a fire and water damage in 2017 which left it unusable. Demolition is currently underway and completion of the new building is planned for 2022.
