University of Cambridge Masterplan
Cambridge Biomedical Campus
Cambridge

Abell Nepp is working with Allies and Morrison and BuroHappold to masterplan key sites on the University's Biomedical Campus.

The masterplan covers five sites and over a dozen buildings. It establishes a framework where the University can expand teaching, research and clinical facilities in life sciences. One site collocates departments of Clinical Neurosciences and Psychiatry and the new Dementia Research Institute to create the 'Institute of Brain and Mind', an interdisciplinary hub for 500+ researchers.

Abell Nepp was appointed to develop a vision for the expansion of their campus. Collaborating with LDA Design and the Client, a dynamic vision was created to 'kick-start' the masterplanning process.

Supporting genomics and biodata-related research with new academic, incubator and grow-on spaces, the landscape-centric proposal preserves the natural beauty of the site and supports the neighbouring villages.

Abell Nepp assisted Essentia to develop space requirements for the research components for a potential translational research facility project under consideration by King's College London. AN's database provided key metrics to underpin the space assumptions modelled in the strategy and financial proposals.

Abell Nepp provided space utilisation studies for ICR's nine buildings on their two campuses in 2010 and 2016. Mapping and coding each room, in each building, enabled us to compare the use and distribution of space against our space metrics database.

Abell Nepp provided a stategic masterplan and detailed feasibility studies for the refurbishment and extension of existing research spaces. The plan enabled phased internal remodelling, including proposals for extending laboratory space into an existing colonnade, with a new facade and photovoltaic brises soleils.
